UChicago is a leader in graduate and postdoctoral career services. Each member of our six-member GRAD Career Development team serves specific graduate units. Together, they leverage their collective professional experience in academia, industry, nonprofits, and government to help graduate students and postdocs explore a variety of career options. This year over 1,700 graduate students, postdocs, and alumni have benefited from the following resources:
During one-on-one, 60-minute appointments with divisional specialists, students can explore careers, review job materials, prepare for interviews, find internships, and connect with alumni. Students in Harris, Booth, SSA, Graham School, and Pritzker are encouraged to visit their respective career offices first, and are welcome at UChicagoGRAD.
Each year, the career Development team hosts more than 100 programs dedicated to the exploration and successful pursuit of careers in academia, industry, nonprofits, and government. This includes the flagship autumn GRADFair and GRADUCon career conferences, but also smaller events on specific industries, career exploration, and career skills. Check the GRAD Guide Weekly for program dates throughout the year.
Through the GRAD Global Impact (GGI) program, UChicagoGRAD provides funding to offset the cost of living during internships. In partnership with campus centers like the Institute of Politics and programs like myCHOICE, more than 100 opportunities for internships have been offered to graduate students in the summer of 2016.
All materials from UChicagoGRAD career programs and events are available online including resume, CV, and cover letter guides; webinars; extensive presentations on academic job market preparation; and industry introductions.
