The Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship (also known as FLAS or Title VI) is an award for students concentrating in modern foreign language and international or area studies. For 2015-2016, UChicago is accepting applications for languages in five world areas: East Europe, Latin America, Middle East, South Asia, and East Asia. Students can apply for a summer FLAS, an academic year FLAS, or both. To be eligible, applicants must be in a program that combines modern foreign language training with area or international studies or research and training in the international aspects of professional and other fields of study, and must not be beyond the fifth year of graduate study in a department or professional school while holding the award. For more detailed information, consult the University of Chicago’s FLAS website.
