Privacy Policy

The University of Chicago is committed to protecting and safeguarding the individual privacy of applicants by restricting the use of all collected information. The information on this application may be used by Chicago officials only for appropriate administrative (admission and financial aid processing, for example) and research purposes.

The only personally identifiable information the University collects via electronic mail, or through our online application, is that which is voluntarily provided by our prospective applicants. Tracking information is collected and analyzed so that we may improve our service offerings to our prospective applicants. This tracking information is kept confidential to the University of Chicago.

The University of Chicago will share personally identifiable information about you when one or more of the following conditions applies: We have your consent to share the information. We respond to subpoenas, court orders or legal process.

Online Payments

The University of Chicago also collects credit card information from you for your application fee. A reputable third-party financial institution handles our credit card transactions.

Whenever you transmit credit card information and other personal information through our site, the numbers and letters are scrambled using encryption technology, making it nearly impossible for the information to be stolen or intercepted. To protect your security, we do not allow you to store your credit card number from session to session.

Cookies

The University of Chicago, like most web sites, uses a feature of your browser to set a "cookie" on your computer. We cannot tell your name or any personal information about you based solely on the cookie. Unless you specifically tell us your name and other identifying information, we will never know who you are. All the cookie tells us is what functions you perform when you are on the site so that we can keep track of your transaction. A cookie also helps us note particular traffic patterns on the site so that we can improve what we offer.

The importance of security for all personal information associated with our prospective applicants is an important concern to the University of Chicago. In coordination with IT Services at the University of Chicago, the University of Chicago seeks to exercise great care in providing secure transmission of your information from your computer to our servers. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Once we receive your transmission, we make our best effort to ensure its security on our systems. When credit card information is transmitted, we use industry standard SSL (secure socket layer) encryption.

Your password is protected so that only you can access it and view the information that you provide to us through the online applicants' site.

We strongly advise you not to share your password with anyone.

IMPORTANT: To avoid having confidential information remain in your browser's "memory" of recently viewed pages, you are strongly urged to quit or turn off your browser software or clear your browser's cache when you are finished working on your application.
