The Academic and Professional Reading Institute (APRI) at the University of Chicago offers a groundbreaking method for teaching, testing and certifying advanced reading skills in world languages for any discipline.

Language offerings include French, German, Italian, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, English, Hebrew, Korean, Japanese, Persian, Russian, and Turkish.

APRI is pleased to announce $1,000 fellowships for Master’s students planning to enter professional careers outside academia (i.e., not Ph.D. programs). Students currently enrolled in Master’s programs are eligible to apply for these fellowships to cover $1,000 of the $1,500 registration fee for registration fee for our (non-credit) Foundational Reading and Reading for Research Seminars.

Preference will be given to applications received by May 1, 2026. Applications received after this date will be considered based on availability of funds.

Eligibility

  • Participants must be currently enrolled in or completing a Master’s program (including non-UChicago programs)
  • Participants must be planning to pursue or working in a career outside of academia
  • These funds can be used for both Foundational Reading and Reading for Research seminars
  • Participants are eligible to receive funding for both seminars
