The Commission for Ancient History and Epigraphy of the German Archaeological Institute conducts and promotes research in the field of ancient history, particularly in the areas of Greek and Latin epigraphy, numismatics, papyrology and historical topography.
The Commission regularly advertises scholarships for German and international doctoral students at its excellently equipped ancient history specialist library. Grants with a duration of three months (corresponding to the quarters of the year) can be applied for. A workspace in the commission library, free accommodation in a fully equipped apartment in the building, coverage of documented travel expenses up to a maximum of EUR 350 (Europe) or EUR 1000 (overseas) and a monthly subsistence allowance of EUR 600 are offered.
Applications in German, English, French, Spanish or Italian are accepted. Applications can be sent four times a year (January 1st, April 1st, July 1st and October 1st).
