Intending to provide a pathway for UChicago students to return to their communities and complete internships there, the IOP is piloting a program to fund and support students working in their hometowns during Summer 2024. The success of this program will support the launch of a larger Hometown Internships program in Summer 2025.
This pilot program will host a cohort of 5 – 10 students who will receive the IOP’s standard and now increased $5,500 stipend to support their summer internship, 4 – 6 planning sessions as a cohort with IOP Career Development staff (Mark and Laresa) to find and secure internships, and 3 – 5 virtual programming events throughout the summer to connect with other cohort members. The IOP is searching for students in two primary tracks: students from urban and suburban locations other than our Chicago hubs and rural students from all over the country. Following the program, cohort members will complete program evaluations and have access to IOP Career Development advising to support speaking to membership in this exclusive pilot cohort in interviews, applications, resumes, cover letters, etc.
