The Joan and Stanford Alexander Award provides $5,000 grants each year to two doctoral candidates working on dissertations that concentrate on photography. The grant will recognize scholarship of the highest caliber and promote excellence in the history of photography by supporting the recipients’ dissertations. The recipients of the grant may use the funds for travel, for research materials, or to set aside time to write.

  • Any doctoral candidate who has completed all coursework and advanced to candidacy prior to the application deadline may apply.
