The Anthony Smith Visiting Fellowship provides £5,000 for a one to two month research stay at LSE IDEAS. It is intended primarily, but not exclusively, for scholars in the early stages of their career, namely doctoral candidates and post-doctoral fellows whose work and research focuses primarily on a topic related to nationalism. Visiting Fellows will be required to write a Strategic Update on their research topic (up to 5,000 words) and present their research at an ASEN/LSE IDEAS seminar.

Eligibility

Doctoral candidates at an advanced stage in their thesis and early career researchers within seven years of submission of their doctoral thesis are eligible to apply.

Applicants may come from anywhere in the world. However, neither ASEN nor the LSE can assist with obtaining a visa. If the successful applicant requires a visa but is unable to obtain one independently, we will offer a remote fellowship instead of a visiting fellowship. This would give access to the LSE’s online resources, including electronic access to the library, as well as support and supervision from academics at LSE and ASEN.
