DAAD offers grants to graduate students at North American universities to attend 8-week intensive language courses at leading institutes in Germany. Scholarships are awarded to students currently enrolled full-time in a graduate program in all fields of study except German Studies, German Language and Literature or German Translation and Interpretation. Applicants will be assessed on the basis of their academic record and statements of projected academic and professional future.

Foreign nationals may be eligible if they have been full-time graduate students at a US or Canadian university for at least one academic year at the time of application. Applicants must have completed three semesters of college German or have achieved an equivalent level of language proficiency at the time of application.

The award offers a one-off scholarship payment of EUR 2,300, payment of a country-specific travel allowance, and payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover.
