The research grant offers the opportunity to pursue a research project in Germany. The program  supports research stays during a doctorate or in the early postdoc phase. This grant is open to applicants in all fields.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Citizens or permanent residents of the United States or Canada are eligible.
  • Foreign nationals are eligible if they live in the US or Canada by the time of application deadline and have gained their last degree in the US or Canada or will be gaining it before the beginning of their funding period. A Master’s degree earned as part of a PhD program meets this requirement.

AWARD PERIOD

Doctoral students: 2 to 12 months
Postdocs: 4-6 months

Deadlines

The DAAD Research Grant in Germany has two deadlines annually.

October 31, 2024 for projects beginning between June 2025 and September 2025.
April 30, 2025 for projects beginning in October 2025 and later.

priority Nomination Process

Each year, the university is allowed to nominate up to two doctoral students for priority consideration. Only applicants for the October deadline can be considered for this nomination.

Interested students must apply to the Fulbright US Student Program, and will be considered as nominees for the DAAD Research Grant in Germany as they proceed through the Fulbright US Student application process.

  • First deadline (Fulbright draft): September 1, 2024
  • Second deadline (Fulbright application complete): September 15, 2024
  • National deadline: October 31, 2024
    • Submit entire application on the DAAD Application portal

Nominees are responsible for submitting their applications to DAAD by the external (national) deadline in October 2024. Please note that the DAAD application portal closes promptly on European Central Time.
