AWG offers a wide range of professional and student awards and scholarships.
Student awards include:
The Winifred Goldring Award will be presented to three outstanding female graduate students pursuing a career in paleontology (and affiliated sciences) at a degree-granting institution. The award, which consists of a $2000 cash prize and membership in the Paleontological Society and AWG for tenure of the awardee’s schooling. Applications are due April 30th of each year.
The Brunton Field Project Award awards a Brunton Compass and up to $1000 to support field activities to each awardee. The award will go to a student whose gender identity has been historically underrepresented in the geosciences at the undergraduate and at the graduate level. The application deadline is December 15th of each year.
The Jeanne E. Harris Chrysalis Scholarship provides degree-completion funding for women geoscience graduate students whose education has been significantly interrupted by life circumstances. Awarded funds are intended to cover costs associated with completion of her thesis/dissertation, beyond what is traditionally covered by primary research funding. Costs may include preparation costs of thesis/dissertation; travel for defense; required tuition in the final stage of preparation; dependent care. The application deadline is May 31st of each year.
