BMS aims to encourage excellence in education and research in organic synthesis by providing funds to support graduate students in chemistry doctoral programs at institutions in the United States. Through this Program, BMS hopes to support research in synthetic organic chemistry, an integral discipline in the discovery and development of transformational medicines.

This award is intended for students students entering their third or fourth year graduate studies in the Fall of the award year whose doctoral studies are primarily in the field of organic chemistry including synthetic methodology development, natural product synthesis, computational prediction of chemical synthesis and construction of both small and large molecule chemical biology tools.

The $39,000 Fellowship award is designed to provide $34,000 towards the direct costs of the student’s education and stipend, and $5,000 to their faculty supervisor to cover the cost of equipment and supplies. Selected students will be invited to present their research at a BMS sponsored Symposium.

Note: The funding opportunity may not be visible on the website at all times of year. The fellowship application has historically had a deadline in May. View the 2025 call.
