RESEARCH GRANTS
Current University of Chicago faculty, of any rank, and current PhD students are eligible to apply for support of research projects related to free inquiry and expression, broadly defined. We expect that funding will be capped at $10,000 for students and $20,000 for faculty, though we may provide smaller amounts of support depending on the overall number of proposals submitted. Funds might go for expenses such as travel support, either in the U.S. or abroad; research expenses; and conferences and workshops hosted at Chicago.
CONVERSATION GRANTS
Current University of Chicago students of any rank are eligible to apply for funds to support conversations that develop the practice of free inquiry expression. A key criterion for funding will be a demonstration of dialogue across difference; conversations bringing together disparate student groups and perspectives will be prioritized. Funds may be used to facilitate expenses such as space, refreshments, or materials, and can include activities outside of traditional academic formats. We expect that most projects will be $3,000 or less.
DEADLINE
An initial deadline for proposals will be December 3, 2023 at 11:59 pm.
