Graduate Fellowships for STEM Development is a partnership between government agencies and laboratories, industry, and higher education, based at the University of Southern California. GFSD is open for application by all U.S. citizens regardless of race or gender. The GFSD fellowship supports full-time graduate study only. GFSD’s mission is to cultivate the next generation of STEM leaders through merit-based fellowships, mentorship, and professional research experiences.

Eligibility

  • U.S. Citizens
  • Applicants at any stage of their graduate program may apply, as long as they will be available to accept two summers of paid internship.

 

Fellowship Benefits

  • Fellows receive $20,000 in funding to go toward their graduate stipend. Fellowships are renewable annually in discussion with partner agencies and fellowships are typically offered to 3-6 years. (subjected to change)
  • Fellows are given an opportunity to participate in paid summer internships at federal agencies or companies.
  • Fellows have a strong network of current and past fellows who would love to support you.

Fields of Study

Though the fields supported can vary annually depending on employer needs, in general GFSD covers the following: Astronomy, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology, Materials Science, Mathematical Sciences, Physics, and their subdisciplines, and related engineering fields: Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Environmental, Mechanical.
