Every summer, the Middlebury Language Schools offer seven and eight week immersion language programs in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German (including German for Singers Program), Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

Middlebury offers a number of merit-based Fellowships and Scholarships for the summer Languages Schools that may apply to you:

Davis Fellows for Peace

The Davis Fellows for Peace fellowships are awarded to 12 languages and cover tuition, room, and board for one summer at any level of study. Successful fellowship applications typically have a strong background in peace work or conflict resolution, broadly construed. They have represented a wide range of professions, from NGO work to government service, journalism to law, medicine to the arts, and so on. Applications should have a plan for future peace work and knowledge of the region and relevant issues. The fellowship committee gives more weight to accomplishments and related future projects than it does to academic qualifications alone.

KRESS FELLOWSHIPS IN EUROPEAN ART HISTORY OR ART CONSERVATION

Five fellowships are offered for graduate students in European art history or art conservation. Fellowships cover the comprehensive fee (tuition, room, and board) to attend the Middlebury Language Schools in French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, or Spanish. Travel expenses and books are not included.

SPARK for German

SPARK fellows will attend an interactive twice-weekly workshop on teaching German as a foreign language in addition to classes in the German School. This hands-on workshop will introduce participants to the most current theories in and approaches to teaching German to children and include practical and fun ways to apply their new knowledge. Fellowships are $1500 to attend the Middlebury Language Schools in German. The fellowship can be in addition to need-based financial aid.
