Established in 2005, the Agnes and Nathan Janco Travel Award supports thesis and dissertation research-related travel by SSD graduate students. The awards are designed to help defray the costs of travel for students who have a specific research goal critical to their theses or dissertations.

The award is primarily intended to support travel and other field research costs for either domestic or international travel. The budget can range up to $5,000 for doctoral candidates and up to $2,500 for MA students and pre-ABD PhD students. Awards will be made before the end of the 2023–24 academic year for travel starting in Summer 2024.

MA and PhD students enrolled in a program in the Division of the Social Sciences may apply. To be eligible for consideration, a student must either be:

  1. an MA student engaging in thesis research during Summer 2024; or

    • To be eligible for a $5,000 budget, the student must have been admitted to PhD candidacy by Summer 2024, and preferably by the time of application.
