The Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR) is dedicated to the scholarly study of the history of American foreign relations. SHAFR awards dissertation research grants to defray dissertation research expenses:

  • Bernath Dissertation Grant (up to $4,000): Intended to help graduate students defray expenses encountered in the writing of their dissertations.
  • Gelfand-Rappaport-LaFeber Fellowship (up to $4,000): Intended to defray the costs of dissertation research travel.
  • Samuel F. Bemis Research Grant (up to $2,000): Intended to help defray the costs of domestic or international travel necessary to conduct research on significant scholarly projects.
  • W. Stull Holt Dissertation Fellowship (up to $4,000): Intended to defray the costs of travel necessary to conduct research on a significant dissertation project.
