Credential in Research Communication

Communication is central to the PhD student experience: presenting at conferences, defending the dissertation, and engaging in public speaking opportunities. The Research Communication Credential offers a progressive sequence of hands-on workshops, practice fields, and electives to help you build skills as a speaker, presenter, and scholar.

Complete a three-workshop sequence around the three core competencies:

  • Audience Engagement
  • Visual Communication
  • Spoken Delivery

Choose two practice fields and participate in two activities per chosen field:

  • Academic Communication
  • Professional Communication
  • Public Communication

Complete one additional elective training experience, such as a workshop about on-camera communication or a position as a communication specialist.

What You’ll Gain

The Credential in Research Communication offers UChicago PhD students the following opportunities:

  • A supportive environment that allows for risk and skill-building
