Programs include:
This program provides Master’s and Ph.D. level candidates an opportunity to conduct work within an Argonne research group or on a specific project for the purpose of supporting the student’s thesis work. The university sets the academic standards and awards the degree. In practice, the participation of the faculty member varies from full partnership in the research to general supervision of the student’s thesis work. The Argonne staff member keeps the faculty member at the university informed on the student’s progress.
Argonne offers research aide appointments that can fit the needs — and schedules — of any graduate student. We encourage students pursuing a Master’s degree as well as Ph.D. candidates to come to Argonne to discover new knowledge — and change your world. As temporary employees, students earn a salary and are expected to possess the skills required to do the assigned task when they arrive. Understanding the scientific basis for the work is generally not emphasized. Unlike research internships, research aide appointments are considered jobs. The laboratory offers a variety of Research Aide positions ranging from long-term to short-term appointments, with both part-time and full-time options.
